Lena Krivenkova: Resilience and Beauty in Clay

Lena Krivenkova, the creative force behind “Not Yet Ceramics,” has become a prominent ceramic artist to watch in London. Born in Moscow, Lena's artistic journey with clay began as a response to the challenges she faced after relocating to London in 2022 due to the difficulties caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Through her sculptural stoneware vessels, Lena not only found solace but also created a profound reflection of her personal experiences and the importance of human connection.

With a background in illustration from the British Higher School of Art and Design, Lena brought her keen eye for observation, storytelling, and capturing the essence of people and objects to her ceramic practice. Her sculptural stoneware vessels take the form of semi-abstract mascots, embodying the importance of human relationships and the warmth they bring. Lena's creations serve as a reminder of the vital role such connections play in her own life and the lives of others.

Her artistic vision is deeply rooted in emphasizing the inherent qualities of clay. She deliberately chooses to leave her pieces unglazed, allowing the raw and organic nature of the material to shine through. By doing so, she accentuates the texture and form of her sculptures, enhancing their emotive and evocative qualities. The natural hues of the clay further contribute to the authentic and organic aesthetic, bringing a sense of vulnerability and a profound connection with the origins of clay as a material.

Through her work with clay, she has found solace, strength, and a medium to communicate her personal experiences. Lena's sculptural stoneware vessels serve as subtle yet deep reminders of the importance of human connection that can emerge from adversity. As she continues to shape her artistic path in London, Lena's practice is captivating and encouraging viewers to reflect on their own experiences and the power of art to inspire.

Lena is an active member of Ceramics Classes London. She will be participating in Barnes Fair on Saturday 8th of July 2023 with an exclusive collection of small sculptural ceramic vessels carefully selected for the event. For more information about Barnes Fair, please read our post here.
