Artist information:
My name is Alice Keen, I am a London based artist. I studied at the Royal Academy Schools, I paint portraits and objects and I am often inspired by my surroundings.
Two of my paintings showing at the Clay Galeria feature of a pair of ceramic dogs that belonged to my mother which she treasured and lovingly restored. To me the dog symbolises a timeless sense of companionship and memory. It is a celebration of the craftsmanship and emotional resonance that such objects hold.
The colours I chose to use, specifically the mustard yellow and dark green used in the background, were inspired by illustrations from old children's books I have, mirroring the nostalgia the object itself evokes. The expression in the brushstrokes and attention to light and shadow aim to capture the porcelain glaze and the paint that has chipped away with time.
