One Week Course

Beginner level

📍 Hammersmith

  • Starts every Monday April 8th, 15th and 29th

Learn how to throw on the pottery wheel and how to hand build with clay: pinching, coiling, slab building and pressing clay into plaster moulds with decorating slips and a glazing session to follow once all your work has bisqued.

Projects are self directed with expert guidance from our teachers and technicians.

Throwing, Hand building & Decorating techniques / 10 weeks course

Level 1 and Level 2

📍 Hammersmith

Mondays

  • Starts Monday April 15th 18:00-21:00 hrs.

An introduction to a broad range of pottery techniques and surface decorating techniques for beginners when working in ceramics. This ten weeks course teaches throwing for 3 weeks hand building for 3 weeks and decorating techniques for 4 weeks.

The course will include techniques with slip and engobe, inlay application alongside monotype transfer methods. We will also cover decorative and practical approaches to using glaze on bisqueware in the final week.

Hand building & Throwing 4/8 weeks course

Mixed level

  • April 8th in Hammersmith or Barnes 10:30-13:00 hrs.

Tuesdays

  • April 30th in Barnes 10:30-13:00 hrs.

Wednesdays

  • April 3rd in Hammersmith 18:30-21:00 hrs.

Thursdays

  • April 4th in Barnes 10:30-13:00 hrs.

During this course you will learn how to centre the clay on a pottery wheel, throw a cylinder shape and turn a foot on the base of your pot. You will also learn hand building techniques: pinching, coiling, slab building and pressing clay into plaster moulds.

Projects are self directed and you can learn how to make plates, vessels or sculptures. You will also learn how to apply a glaze to your fired work.

Just Throwing 4 weeks course

Mixed level

Tuesdays

  • April 9th in Hammersmith 10:30-13:00 hrs.

  • April 30th in Barnes 10:30-13:00 hrs. or in Hammersmith 18:30-21:00 hrs.

Thursdays

  • April 4th in Barnes 18:00-20:30 hrs.

Saturdays

  • April 13th in Barnes 14:00-16:30 hrs.

Sundays

  • April 28th in Hammersmith 14:00-16:30 hrs.

During this course you will learn how to throw a series of cylinder shapes on the pottery wheel to make cups, vases, bowls and plates. On the fourth session you will learn how to apply a glaze to a selection of your best work.

Decorating Techniques 6 weeks course

Mixed level

📍 Hammersmith

Thursdays

  • April 18th 18:00-21:00 hrs.

This course will cover a broad range of surface decorating techniques when working in ceramics. This six weeks is ideal for artists and makers to discover new decorating techniques or to expand their technical knowledge in clay.
The course will include techniques with slip and engobe, inlay application alongside monotype transfer methods. We will also cover decorative and practical approaches to using glaze on bisqueware.

Intermediate Level Throwing 8 weeks course

Experienced level: You must already be able to centre and competently throw cylinders and bowls.

📍 Hammersmith

Saturdays

  • April 20th 14:00-17:00 hrs.

In this course we will learn how to make closed forms (boxes / jugs with lids) and learn how to construct a water jug from three thrown pieces / elements.

You will learn how to design and plan forms, weighing, measuring and preparing clay. You will also learn throwing component parts, joining and assembling larger pots.

You must already be able to centre and competently throw cylinders and bowls.

Corporate Team Events

📍Hammersmith

The 10-15 person group will last 1.5 -2 hours and during this time you can choose either to throw pots on the pottery wheel or to hand-build with clay at the table.

A 30 person taster will last three hours in duration. We will divide you into two groups with a dedicated teacher to support and guide you. This gives each group of 10 people the opportunity to learn how to throw a pot on the pottery wheel and how to hand build with clay. Each group works with a specialist teacher providing a demonstration to teach you how to work with clay.

Birthday Parties

📍Hammersmith or Barnes

Enquire about children’s parties either in our Hammersmith or Barnes studios. Choose whether to throw a pot on the pottery wheel, make plates or animal sculptures in clay and decorate with coloured slips. Two teachers will teach this class. A clear glaze will be applied to the finished work. Ready to collect 4 weeks after the party.
